About the Artist
Joan Kim Suzuki is an artist living and working in New York. She was born and raised by immigrant parents and grandmother in the United States. Although she was embarrassed and conflicted by her identity all throughout her childhood, she now uses her artwork to express her respect for Asian cultures. Her paintings are inspired by her upbringing, the stories her grandmother told her, and the pride of being Asian-American instilled in her by her parents.
Since starting her artist journey in 2020, her work has been recognized by newspapers and art museums in New York. She has taught workshops about her modern approach to traditional Korean folk art to adults and children in Brooklyn, at Korean Language Schools, and at art festivals as a guest artist. Her work has also been exhibited online and at galleries in Long Island for AAPI month. She is currently focusing on learning digital art, creating fun and whimsical posters that incorporate her love for plants and culture.
